thankful

today's post is my normal post + thankful post all in one.

today i volunteered to package meals for a grassroots organization called "meals from the heartland."

it was the first time i had ever volunteered for this organization and it was an amazing experience.

we had a team of 10 people from work and spent 2 hours packaging bags of food. it was awe inspiring and humbling all in one.

193 grams of food will feed a starving child for a couple of days. a scoop of protein, dehydrated veggies, vitamins and rice is all it takes to save lives. WOW.

it was humbling because i realized just how selfish and wasteful we are. (myself included) it definitely lit a fire under my tukkas to do more for those who are in need.

president obama has asked that we volunteer on 9/11. as we get closer and closer to the 10 year anniversary of september 11, it's important that we help our fellow citizens of the country and the world and not let the lives lost that fateful day been in vain. regardless of your political views, i think that we can all agree with president obama's message on this one.

so today, i am thankful for what i have and thankful for the opportunity to help others.
